MOVES-IT - Moving On Valorization and Engagement towards Sustainability through IntelligenceTools
MOVES-IT tackles Matosinhos' digital and governance challenges by fostering citizen-owned digital tools for city planning (Inclusive Matosinhos), enhancing data collection from green/blue areas (Green/Blue Matosinhos) and strengthening the Cultural and Creative Industry's role in collaborative planning (Vibrant Matosinhos).
Proposed activities include: an Urban Intelligence Centre (UIC) to collate diverse datasets; a Digital Neighbourhood Competition (DNC) to enhance collaborative city planning in a gamified way; and the scaling up of the LABIC (Citizens’ Lab for Climate Transition), a physical space for the drafting of community-led proposals, supported by a revolving fund.
Our main challenges...
The imperative to digitalise public services to avoid inefficiencies, ensure accessibility for citizens, and enhance the municipality's ability to gather and analyse data effectively for urban planning.
The need to tackle socio-economic inequalities, recognising that certain demographic groups face barriers to accessing public services and engaging in civic life, due to factors like digital literacy gaps, economic constraints, or social exclusion.
The untapped potential of the city's vibrant Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI), including for bringing innovative approaches and creative problem-solving skills to improving collaborative city planning processes.
and proposed solutions
An Urban Intelligence Centre (UIC) – a central hub collecting datasets related to Matosinhos' green and blue urban areas and citizens' sustainable behaviours. This data will support informed decision-making and targeted interventions.
A Digital Neighbourhood Competition (DNC) – aiming to support the development of local pilot projects making civic participation accessible and rewarding, fostering citizens’ engagement in collaborative data collection and a sense of ownership in shaping their neighbourhoods.
The scaling up of the Citizens’ Lab for Climate Transition – a physical space for the drafting of community-led proposals, leveraging the datasets from the UIC, integrating the creative support of local artists and to be sustained by a revolving fund.
