Supporting integrated approaches to Sustainable Urban Development
EUI delivered a capacity building event dedicated to supporting integrated approaches to sustainable urban development (SUD) in Ljubljana.
This event was open to persons looking to build their capacity on integrated, place-based, participatory and cross-sectoral approaches to urban sustainability.
The objective of the event was to support urban authorities from small and medium cities within less developed and transition regions to build their capacity for developing an integrated, place-based approach to Sustainable Urban Development (SUD).
The event strived to:
- Explore the four main principles of the integrated, place-based approach to urban development: place-based, participatory, multi-level governance, cross-sectoral development.
- Discuss innovative practices and approaches in Sustainable Urban Development through case studies.
- Build a pipeline of innovative and integrated SUD projects using Cohesion Policy funds: with a focus on local partnership, coordinating the timeline of project lifecycles, linking projects with wider policy objectives in the city and delivering expected results.
The two-day event included plenary sessions, four workshops and study visits. Participants had the opportunity to complete one full track on place-based, integrated approaches to SUD. Each track looked at the four main principles of SUD (place-based, participatory, multi-level governance, cross-sectoral development) through one specific subtheme of SUD.
Event participation was open to urban authorities, managing authorities and urban practitioners from local stakeholder organisations. Priority for event participation was given to organisations located in less developed and transition regions (list available here) and small to medium-sized cities (overall population below 500,000 inhabitants). A maximum of two persons per institution registered to attend.
