The energy was truly inspiring at our recent IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions (NbS) workshop, where 17 dedicated professionals from Ireland, Spain, Italy, and Greece came together to explore the transformative potential of nature in urban environments.

Over three immersive days, from February 26th to 28th, participants deepened their understanding of the IUCN Standard’s principles, honing their skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating impactful NbS projects.

Through real-world case studies, engaging discussions, hands-on exercises, and expert guidance from Sara Pelaez Sanchez, Consultant, PhD Ecology Pelaez Sanchez (NBSCLIMATE), they gained a deeper understanding of how to design, implement, and evaluate impactful NbS projects.

Workshop Highlights:
✅ Comprehensive understanding of the Standard’s eight criteria
✅ Practical application to diverse scenarios
✅ Meaningful connections for future European city collaborations

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, participants also highlighted key challenges in small-scale urban NbS projects, including cross-sectoral coordination, technical expertise, continuous monitoring, and long-term citizen engagement.

This workshop was a step forward in fostering resilient, sustainable cities through nature-based solutions! 🌍
