Urban transformation, river reconquest and park creation

A key urban regeneration project for the Métropole Européenne de Lille (MEL) focuses on a former industrial area near the river Deule. The MEL decided to improve its approach to transforming the area, including revitalising and regenerating the riverbanks, with housing developments, several neighbourhood services and green infrastructure, including a new riverside park. Considering the project’s long-term vision and implementation period, the MEL set out to learn from the City of Turin on how to improve the park’s design and engage the local community in the long and short term. Turin is well placed to share its experiences of similar regeneration processes, including lessons learned.
