Welcoming SHIFT Coimbra to Copenhagen: Sharing ideas on sustainable tourism

by CULture, TourIsm, reGENeration through innovative digital solutions and governance platforms Discover the project
How can European cities work together to make tourism more sustainable, inclusive, and community-driven? Last week’s visit from our sister project SHIFT Coimbra showed the power of knowledge sharing across borders.

On September 23-24 we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from our EUI sister project SHIFT Coimbra to Copenhagen.

Over two days, we exchanged perspectives on sustainable tourism, citizen engagement, and digital innovation – all central themes in both CULTIGEN and Coimbra’s initiatives.

The program included:

  • Insights into Copenhagen’s approach to AI-driven tourism solutions
  • A visit to the Copenhagen Visitor Service and its new tools for guests
  • A deep dive into CULTIGEN’s upcoming Urban Listening Toolkit with Aalborg University
  • Exploring the Citizen Assembly methodology together with We Do Democracy, that is essential in the CULTIGEN project.

We were inspired by Coimbra’s strong focus on entrepreneurship, culture, and education – represented by partners from the Municipality of Coimbra, Polytechnic University, University of Coimbra, Instituto Pedro Nunes, Present Technologies, and more.

Exchanges like these are at the heart of CULTIGEN’s mission: to co-create balanced, inclusive, and sustainable tourism models that can benefit cities across Europe.

A huge thank you to our colleagues from Coimbra for the engaging discussions – we look forward to continuing our collaboration!
