S4T Curatorial Concept
The Station for Transformation Curatorial Concept mobilizes the urban challenge of food as a lens to jointly address the other three urban challenges: inclusivity, greening cities, and sustainable tourism, all also sitting at the intersection of climate change and biodiversity loss. Food serves as an accessible, ‘tasty,’ and transformative entry point to engage with the myriad social, economic, and environmental dynamics of the Lagarina Valley’s ecosystem. The food lens and the S4T guiding question, “What nurtures life?”, are strategic due to their versatility, connection to the territory, and alignment with NEB principles.

S4T Curatorial Concept - overview poster
Food, as a low-threshold and familiar topic, engages people both in their private lives and as active citizens, while connecting diverse issues under a common focus that is also relevant for public administrations’ urban development efforts. In the Lagarina Valley, where food has historically shaped the landscape and cultural heritage, it fosters multisensory, accessible and novel activities that build momentum for long-term ecological transition around the community’s abilities to adapt to and mitigate climate change (also in its intertwined nature with biodiversity loss).
The tool-box like elements of the S4T Curatorial Concept consists of four shareable bilingual (English and Italian) elements:
- A poster with a visual and textual description of the S4T impact and community-building approach, addressing the four alpine ecosystem themes – food, greening cities, social inclusion and sustainable tourism - through the lens of food as a low threshold impact enhancer.
- A booklet containing the S4T Compass and Value Guide, which connects the New European Bauhaus (NEB) criteria with the local context and food perspective, providing inspiration and shared guidelines for planning and conducting activities, interactions, and events at the train station hub.
- A prototyping and mind-mapping tool for co-developing NEB activities, aimed at creating engaging and curiosity-raising activities in and around the train station.
- A poster summarizing the first prototyped S4T activities and their possible impact areas using the Curatorial Concept.
