Festive EUI kick-off event in Rotterdam neighbourhood

Despite the bad weather, the Spring event generated a lot of connection and positive reactions from the neighbourhood. People from different parts of the neighbourhood came together, and the very act of jointly organising the event proved to be a unifying factor.

Many residents -with a very diverse background - contributed to the success by organising activities.

At the special performance stage the Wijk in Bloei project was officially launched, complemented with a surprise: a poem by a poet-resident. During the day the residents could enjoy activities and performances, among others greening-related activities and market stands, musical performances, painting for children, Bulgarian dancing and a free run track.

Communication with the neighbourhood and its residents

Increasing residents' involvement in greening private gardens and (semi-) public spaces in Oud-Mathenesse is at the heart of our EUI project. A trustworthy communication strategy aimed at residents is therefore crucial. The name Greening without Borders and EUI branding was felt too abstract for communication with residents. For this reason we developed in cooperation with residents a new recognisable name, logo and project style: Wijk in Bloei (Neighbourhood in Bloom).

Wijk in Bloei was also presented at the Spring festival and will be used in all communication with the neighbourhood and its residents.
