City-to-City Exchange: Exploring Alternative Mobility for Carbon-Zero Communities
Earlier this year, the Rabat Local Council, supported by the Western Regional Council, participated in a City-to-City Exchange through the European Urban Initiative (EUI) Capacity Building Programme. This exchange, hosted by the Municipality of Guimarães in Portugal, focused on the CEiiA AYR Platform—a mobile app that rewards users for reducing commuting emissions. Users earn credits that can be redeemed with local service providers, while the app also collects data on commuter habits to inform infrastructure planning.
Rabat’s delegation compared Malta’s current mobility landscape, particularly in the Western Region, with Guimarães’ forward-thinking approach. This exchange is a key step towards a future mobility wallet pilot project in Malta, supported by stakeholders like Transport Malta, ensuring integrated planning for future phases.
The exchange reinforces the Western Region’s commitment to smart, data-driven mobility solutions, marking an important milestone in Malta’s journey toward carbon-neutral communities.
