Sustainable urban development for a university city

Historic Perugia, with its cultural sites, museums and universities, faces new urban challenges due to rising university enrolments and student mobility. The city needs to improve public spaces and infrastructure. Participatory projects focus on regenerating various neighbourhoods, for example around the Faculty of Medicine’s new site, while enhancing the historic centre, where most tourist attractions are concentrated. Learning from Coimbra, Perugia aimed to become a living lab for innovative solutions, working with the academic community to improve quality of life and drive sustainable, cultural and economic development.
