A new Urban Area Strategy: unlocking the potential of a territory of 32 municipalities

Located near the Lakes of Maggiore and Orta in Italy’s Piemonte Region, the municipality of Borgomanero had the task of coordinating a shared Urban Area Strategy for 32 neighbouring municipalities. The aim was to boost sustainable tourism, urban regeneration and sustainable mobility. But Borgomanero faced diverse questions. How to encourage a multistakeholder approach? How to communicate better with local stakeholders and improve citizen engagement to promote behavioural change? Borgomanero decided to learn from Silla, a municipality in Spain experienced in facing similar challenges.
