Making tourism friendly for local communities and public spaces
With tourism surging over the last decade, bringing with it increased risks of gentrification and social exclusion, the Adriatic port city of Bari launched extensive regeneration work. Projects include transforming unused factories into a cultural hub, with green spaces and improved access to beaches and services for residents and tourists. How to ensure an integrated, community-based, urban development approach that keeps on benefiting tourists and local residents? Bari joined a City-to-City exchange with Granada to learn more about combining sustainable tourism with improving public spaces and quality of life for residents.
