Boosting biowaste management for a circular economy

The Intermunicipal Community of Coimbra Region (CIM-RC) aims to become an ‘exemplary region’ in environmental values, the circular economy and climate adaptation. However, low selective waste collection rates hinder sustainable urban development, especially in inland areas. CIM-RC needed to boost its circular economy – in particular the sustainable management of bio-waste – and improve integrated territorial investments. For inspiration and smart solutions, Coimbra joined a two-day exchange with Murcia, Spain’s first city to develop a Circular Economy Strategy.
